The series started a seven-week break after the last World Cup Cross-Country at Mont-Sainte-Anne, Quebec, Canada. This was so that riders could prepare for the World Championships. The big event will take place in Rotorua (New Zealand) starting August 22. In Schladming (Austria), the International Cycling Federation hosts the final World Cup for the year approximately 1 1/2 weeks later.
USA Cycling’s Olympic Stipend Incentive Program pays cash for the top four male and four female riders on the UCI Individual Rankings List. The American rider must be in the top 60 overall men’s and 40 overall women’s rankings to qualify for cash. They also need to have attended the last World Cup before the Individual Rankings List was published.
America’s improved ranking on the Nation Ranking is the best news. The U.S. has moved 3 places from 10th to 7th since the last update. Only three of our riders are listed among the top 60. GTs Todd Wells is currently 62nd with just 196 UCI points. The U.S. Women remain in 4th place Nations Ranking.
